because I like it

I’m going to the theater / cinema / for coffee…

With whom?

Alone.

Alone? Why?

BECAUSE I LIKE IT.

Because I like it. Because I can. Because I want to. Because it’s nobody’s business what I do, where, or with whom. Because that’s my choice.

That’s why I can enjoy a coffee alone in a café, sit and read a book, or tap away on my computer. I can also dress up nicely and go to the theater alone. Or I can choose not to dress up, or to dress up every day – because why not? And in the theater, there are often single seats left in the best spots, close to the stage. 😉 I can also go to the cinema, take a walk, have a picnic—anywhere… just because I want to.

It doesn’t mean I don’t like company. I do. A lot. But sometimes, I just choose myself. It’s a kind of luxury – the ability to decide that today, I want only myself as company. Without unnecessary explanations, without the need to justify it.

Because that’s what freedom is – freedom from expectations, from pressure, from constant interactions. Coffee sipped in your own company tastes different. It’s as if time slows down, and the flavor holds something unique, something you don’t notice in the rush or while chatting. Being in your own company feels different, introspective. Almost like every sound and thought carries more weight, and the space around becomes more personal, as if it belongs only to you, even though others are around; at some point, you stop noticing them.

For some, going out “alone” is filled with fear and uncertainty. But that’s just it – if you label it loneliness, then that’s how you’ll feel – lonely and sad. It’s not just a fear of solitude coming from deep inside, but above all, the pressure from society, closing in from the outside. Spending time with oneself, instead of being liberating, becomes a reminder of traumas or deficits.

But for me, it’s not loneliness. It’s independence, self-reliance, maturity. It’s a choice. It’s awareness. It’s an invitation to oneself. It’s cool.

Try it too. Even if you’re scared, it’s worth giving yourself some of your own company.
